Science Extension Group: "DIY Glow-in-the-Dark Pen" Workshop
Background: In conjunction with the Hong Kong Museums Festival 2025, the Science Promotion Group will host a workshop on making glow-in-the-dark pens. Participants can create their own glow-in-the-dark pens using glow-in-the-dark powder and glitter, learn about the scientific concept of cold light emission, distinguish between fluorescence and luminescence, and understand the underlying scientific principles.
Content:
Assist in the smooth running of the “DIY Glow-in-the-Dark Pen” workshop. Scope of work includes:
– Guiding and assisting participants in making glow-in-the-dark pens
– Assisting with crowd management, participant entry, and maintaining order
– Answering simple inquiries
– Taking photos of the event
– Conducting questionnaires
– Explaining the scientific principles behind fluorescence and glow-in-the-darkness to participants
– Assisting with venue setup (or assisting with moving tables and chairs)

Number of Volunteers Required: 10
Service Requirements:
– Fluent in Cantonese; basic Mandarin and English communication skills are a plus
– Polite, with good interpersonal skills, communication skills, and a service-oriented attitude
– Form 5 or above
– Priority will be given to volunteers with a scientific background and relevant experience in assisting with the event.
Introduction Session
* Successful volunteers (those selected) must attend the introduction session to learn about the service details.

Time: 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM
Location: Hong Kong Science Museum
Content: Hong Kong Science Museum staff will introduce the event content, service details, required skills, precautions for conducting the event, and related knowledge.
*The introduction session will be conducted in Cantonese.
Registration Method: Please complete the online registration form by 12:00 PM on October 3, 2025 (Friday). Applications submitted after this time will be considered invalid.
Registration Notes: Due to limited places, if the number of applicants exceeds the required number, the secretariat will conduct a computer-generated random draw. Successful volunteers (those selected) will be notified via email on or before October 15, 2025 (Wednesday). Those not selected will also be notified separately. The event is subject to change, and the final announcement by the Secretariat shall prevail.
